Danyealah Green-Lemons
Danyealah is a poet, painter, and cultural curator whose work highlights the stories of marginalized groups - in the home, public space, and cultural economy.
MessageDanyealah is an interdisciplinary artist who uses poetry, painting, and cultural curating to highlight the stories of black women and marginalized groups. In 2017, she earned her Master’s of Architecture degree, which has empowered her to garner over six years of experience in the art and architectural design industries. Danyealah’s goal is to challenge dominant narratives by making visible the lives and experiences of underrepresented groups as they are - in the home, public space, and broader cultural economy.
As a poet, Danyealah explores themes of survival, joy, and kinship through written and spoken word. Her writing is inspired by her unique experiences as a black queer woman and the time from 2018 to 2020, where she wrote and organized with "Voices: Poetry For The People," a grassroots poetry workshop paying homage to poet June Jordan. As a painter, Danyealah documents the real and “perceived” world through an iterative process of observation, incorporating vibrant watercolors, acrylic paint, and mixed media.
The culmination of her work as an artist is expressed in cultural curating. In 2019, Danyealah worked with the Family Action Movement Network and Community Justice Project as an architectural advocate for the historic preservation of Little Haiti, Miami. Partnering with these organizations inspired Danyealah to design and curate a discussion-based panel event called, "For The City: Economics and Ethnicity in the 305," in collaboration with a local faith-based organization. All in all, Danyealah invites her audiences to reimagine the world with greater empathy and innerstanding through her artwork and advocacy.
