Texas Pastoral was an early commission for an art collector in Columbus, TX made back when Windberg and Salinas bluebonnet landscapes were the trending Texas art of the day. While the subject matter is in common to the Windberg and Salina works, Dan's approach to the same subject is clearly different and unique in that his painting is embued with a sense of shimmering light and an uncanny feeling the the landscape stretched into the distance for miles and miles. Like the impressionists like Monet, the movement was defined by an effort to capture the fleeting effects of light itself over the landscape which it illuminates. In this work Dan paints the light that defines and radiates off the subjects in the landscape instead of the physical objects themselves.
