MessageStatement
My work is a celebration of the intimate bond between nature and the human spirit, painted from the perspective of someone immersed in the rhythm of the Apostle Islands. As a Madeline Island watercolorist, my mornings begin on the water, paddling as the sun rises. It is during these quiet moments that the landscape awakens—the eagles stretch their wings, bears stir in the woods, and the haunting calls of loons echo across the water. These experiences form the heartbeat of my art, infusing each painting with the light, color, and emotion of the islands I call home.
My paintings reflect the places I explore: sunlit forest paths, the rugged edges of sandstone cliffs, tranquil bays shimmering with dawn light, and the serene quiet of snow-covered streets in winter. With watercolor as my medium, I allow the fluidity and transparency of the paint to mirror the unpredictability and beauty of nature itself. The interplay of light and shadow, the blending of earthy tones and vibrant hues—all are intentional elements designed to evoke a deep connection to place and memory.
Based in the charming lakeside town of Bayfield, Wisconsin, my gallery is an extension of my life on the islands. It offers visitors a glimpse into the intimate landscapes and waterscapes of this region—scenes that shift with the seasons and reveal new wonders each day. My hope is that my paintings inspire viewers to slow down, reflect, and discover their own stories within the landscapes I portray.
Through these works, I aim to share the joy and reverence I feel for this unique corner of the world, where land and water meet in a dance of light and life. Whether it’s the first rays of sunlight kissing the treetops or the gentle ripple of water beneath a kayak, my art invites you to see the Apostle Islands as I do: a place of boundless beauty and profound serenity.
