About Dale Cook

Dale Cook is emotionally connected to the Maritimes with her family roots spanning over two centuries. This is the source of endless inspiration for her artwork. The diversity of the region through its changing seasons, land and seascapes and its people are represented in her work.

Dale approaches her work with enthusiasm when developing her concept considering the composition, light, and values. There is nothing careless in her approach. The finished work is representational blurring the lines of realism and impressionism.

Her emotional response to a subject is expressed in each painting. For Dale the greatest joy is the connection that develops between a viewer and her artwork often evoking a memory or a feeling between the two.

Dale’s works have been collected across Canada, United States, Mexico, UK, France, Germany, and Australia and is represented locally by Handworks Gallery, Saint John

Statement

Art is how I make sense of the world. It’s how I capture fleeting moments, tell stories, and connect with something bigger than myself. Whether it’s the way light shifts across the water, the texture of old fishing docks, or the quiet power of the tide, my work is about creating that bridge between personal experience and shared memory.

The coastline has always been a part of me—it’s more than just a backdrop; it’s a storyteller. Every wave, every piece of driftwood, every weathered structure carries the weight of history. The people who’ve lived and worked along the shore, the traditions passed down, the way the sea shapes their lives—it all speaks to something deep and lasting. Through my art, I try to reflect that rhythm, that connection. I want to honor the lives intertwined with the water, the memories tucked into the landscape, and the quiet beauty that’s always there, even as everything changes.
