Devorah Hake Brinckerhoff creates Soul Portraits, blending art and personal stories to inspire self-discovery, healing, and empowerment.
MessageDevorah Hake Brinckerhoff is a visionary artist and the creator of Soul Portraits, an immersive art experience that empowers individuals to reconnect with their deepest selves. With over 30 years as a professional artist, Devorah combines personal artifacts—such as letters, photographs, and meaningful objects—into unique, reflective pieces that invite self-discovery and healing from early experiences. Soul Portraits are more than art; they are pathways for clients to honor their journeys and explore all parts of who they are.
Growing up in Vermont, Devorah found comfort in nature, yet it was art that became her true refuge, guiding her through challenges and helping her reconnect with her inner power. After studying at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, she developed a rich career in fine art, where her work explored themes of resilience, vulnerability, and connection. In 2019, she made the bold choice to step away from traditional gallery representation to foster a more direct, intimate relationship with her audience. Opening her studio allowed her to create a space where people could connect with her work and process on a personal level.
Today, Devorah offers commissioned Soul Portraits and a home kit, which invites people to create their own Soul Portrait as a way to explore their personal narratives with depth and authenticity. Her mission is to inspire empowerment and wholeness, helping others turn life experiences into powerful expressions of self-acceptance and growth. Living in Lake Oswego, Oregon, with her husband and three children, Devorah continues to expand her creative journey, sharing her gifts in a way that celebrates human connection and transformation.
Statement
Art has been my lifelong companion, a language that allowed me to express truths I couldn’t always put into words. I grew up feeling disconnected, trying to meet others’ expectations and losing touch with my inner self. Painting became my refuge, a quiet space where I could explore my experiences and emotions honestly, even if I wasn’t fully aware of it at the time. Through mixed media, I discovered a powerful way to visually layer and transform personal memories, stories, and histories—reconnecting with my truth piece by piece.
I created a process I call Soul Portraits - they began as a way for me to heal. I learned that by incorporating personal materials—letters, photos, mementos—I could move through and release hidden parts of myself, finding freedom and empowerment in the process. This discovery felt too powerful to keep to myself. When I offered this process to others, I saw how it allowed them to honor their stories, transforming memories and emotions into something beautiful and whole.
Today, each Soul Portrait I create is an invitation for clients to connect with their own truth. The process isn’t about achieving something perfect; it’s about discovering the beauty in one’s real experiences. Through Soul Portraits, I aim to help others find release, self-acceptance, and the freedom to let go of what no longer serves them.
