Artist Statement:
"This painting is very special for me to have done. It is meant to be very symbolic for the Rappahannock people and their Chief. The reference photo was taken at James Madison's birth place, Bell Grove Plantation. Chief Anne is sitting inside the home, on a beautiful lounge chair. Chief Anne is wearing authentic regalia and headdress for a Chief. She is the first woman chief since the early 1700’s. I wanted to depict and capture the strength, wisdom, courage, and confidence needed in progressing her people, culture and traditions forward in the 21st century."
