In the sunrise and sunset we see a cosmic balance of opposites representing completion. While the sun fires up our passions and heats up our hearts to the potential of life that abounds, it also warms and quiets the spirit. We see this dichotomy of opposites in “Summer Solstice” as we are drawn in by the energy and flow of the fabric yet discover the muse in a relaxed almost meditative state of repose. The arch of the woman’s skirt mimics the path of the rising and setting sun. She seems to be lingering in a moment, just as the sun lingers on the solstice, the longest day of the year. As an ancient symbol for the soul, the sun brings renewal and hope as we embrace its warmth and comfort.
