My life and my art are based and inspired by two major ideals - Gratitude and Grace. I am honored to share my heart with you.
MessageCyndy Carstens was awarded a summer scholarship to the highly regarded Art Institute of Minneapolis at the age of 6—an experience that inspired her to pursue a career as an artist.
Since that youthful initiation, she has worked in a variety of mediums, including oil, graphite, acrylic, watercolor and mixed media. Her current main focus is on the colors of light reflected and/or refracted in the atmosphere and landscape.
Carstens' paintings are in private collections across America and 8 countries around the world. Carstens work is in a number of corporate collections including Intel Corporation, Bank of America, Gray Manufacturing, Inc. and Banner Alzheimer's Institute & Consortium, among others. Statement
Studying art most of my life has allowed me the privilege of garnering my own conclusions about art, personages and metaphysics.
We are what we believe.
We are what we consistently think about.
We are a reflection of our environments - created inside and out.
We are not at the mercy of fate – the choices we make, whether conscious or subconscious, control our happiness, health, world and relationships.
My art-making is about these choices.
A study in reflective and refractive light, symmetrical compositions frame the landscape into a timeless moment, constructing the landscape as I wish it to be. Interpreting reality as “is” and imagined – layer upon layer, image over image. My art constructs visual realities and brings to the forefront an awareness of our endangered humanity and the vulnerabilities of our environment.
The paintings are not realistic or impressionistic or abstract, but a combination, inviting the viewer to explore nature while reflecting on our transient existence and place within the larger scope of earth, universe and the beyond.
“My paintings are the music in my head;
the light in my soul; and the passion of my heart.
A sincere and genuine desire to express
the radiance of God’s spirit in the play of light.”
