MessageCyndy is a mixed media artist from Adelaide, South Australia. Her works are energetic and expressive. She captures the feelings of nostalgia which instantly transports the viewer to a time or place, triggering memories of play, wonder and anticipation.
Cyndy graduated from the Online Mastery Program with Milan Art Institute in October 2021. The program provided her with top class foundational skills in drawing and working with oils. It was through the Mastery Program that Cyndy started exploring her voice and unique style.
A key theme that Cyndy explores is Being Uniquely You. Whether it's portraying the emotions of feeling awkward, wanting to belong, exploring what makes us tick, or celebrating a reconnection to playfulness, childlike wonder and curiosity, the underlying theme of Being Uniquely You is always present in her work, that exudes energy, depth, emotion, fun and discovery.
Statement
The power of nostalgia, evoking emotion instantly through the senses.
I've been exploring with mixed media and oils, fine tuning my process since 2019. Introducing a variety of mediums gives me the freedom to be expressive, bold, energetic. Something magical happens each time when little discoveries pop up along the way.
I'm a storyteller, uncovering and evoking wonder and awe amidst unintentional marks and abstract forms. Inspiration can suddenly appear visually in my mind or a synchronistic find during a walk, or through music.
I like to work quickly and energetically so I can capture everything that wants to be released on to the canvas. This is when my most successful work happens!
I'm not quite sure how to define my style yet - it's somewhere between abstract realism and expressionism; maybe contemporary realism? I'm influenced by expressionism, energetic 'play' on the canvas, which is generally determined by my mood, which in turn is determined by the music I'm listening to at the time.
I love the challenge of rendering a focal point in detail to be representational but not hyper-realistic. And I love the abstract beginnings of my work which happen quite organically. Beginning with a foundation of acrylics or water-based inks, paints, markers, spray paint, I bring the work to near completion and then I finish it off with a pop of oils to create a push and pull and add depth.
