Painted on the steps of the Duomo in San Gimignano, I tried to keep this piece simple and suggestive of the character of this medieval hilltop town that never quite fully joined the Renaissance. While painting this piece, a Gardia police vehicle pulled onto the square and delivered a lost little girl to her tearful family. The entire square erupted in cheers.
