We learned how to row a boat Venetian-style in the Canareggio neighborhood. It is so different than most of Venice, much less busy and filled with the residences of the few Venetians who are left in the city. Our guide pointed out places where she had gone to elementary school, played on the basketball team, and so on as we rowed through the largely deserted canals.
