Harriet Godbole is an abstract artist with a BFA from The Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford in Connecticut. Born in Greece and raised in Connecticut, she has created art for most of her adult life. Her art journey has been one in which discovery and experimentation have played an important role.
She thinks of her work as abstract realism. Working in an intuitive way she focuses on feelings, emotions, and attitudes without too much concern about portraying her subject in a hyper-realistic way. She enjoys the physical process of art-making and puts emphasis on mark-making, experimentation, and innovation.
She has been making art for many years and still believes that the art-making process is something to be cultivated, and requires work and refinement daily. She feels that inspiration and creativity require due diligence even when one is not motivated.
The Artist has lived in Upstate New York, Connecticut, and currently, Florida where she lives with her family in a quaint little community on the Gulf reminiscent of her Mediterranean roots. She hopes to inspire communication, provoke a reaction and create a space where one can explore her work and discover, not only a glimpse into her story, but also where one can discover and make connections to their own story.
She has exhibited in many shows both in Upstate New York and in Florida. Her work is in many private collections locally as well as nationally. Her memberships include the Women’s Caucus for Art-Florida where she serves on the Board as Secretary. She is an active artist member of PAVA, the Professional Association of Visual Artists, and currently serves as President for TESA, The Exhibiting Society of Artists.
