It is an early morning workout – the kind where the horses breath is creating that mystic presence in the air – as if our notion that this entity is a magical creature is somehow is proven right. This soul does indeed exhale a rarified air.
The countless old dictionary pages are symbols… but of what? Of races run, losses overcome, victory hard fought. Or are they challenges yet ahead? We can never know – which is what makes this world so magical.
Collins never released this work and it became part of her personal collection. It was completed in 2006 before her fame rose to new heights, and part of the beautiful backstory is that it is one of the last paintings she did not sign on the front- during her first 14 years, she only signed on the backs of paintings, as she felt she was merely a conduit of beauty. As her success reached greater and greater levels, galleries insisted she begin signing her work on the front. Today Collins is one of the top female contemporary painters in the world, and while she does now sign on the front, she still believes she is simply a conduit from some greater force of love.
