Lola del Fresno was born in Madrid and studied at the University of Fine Arts. Since then, her work has been recognized internationally, and shown in galleries in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Milan, and New York. She has lived and worked in Santa Monica, California since 2001.
Del Fresno's visual art projects involve large-scale mixed media installations with an active public component that involves the viewer as part of the project in the space. Her work is composed of mixed-media pieces that include drawings, photography, paintings, and sculptures. She has exhibited her work locally and internationally. Her large-scale installations and paintings are housed in well-known private collections and museums.
Del Fresno has received several awards in Spain, including the first prize Gremios de Pintura in 1995, the Prize Adara in Avila, Spain in 2003, and the Prize Tentaciones - Estampa Art Fair with her installation entitled “Walking.”
Paper has been always her greatest love, primarily because of the connection to the feeling, texture and the immediacy of the medium. Over the years the vision of her work has been expanding and evolving towards large scale installations, partially in an attempt to engage a dialogue in a more direct way with the public. Working in different mediums in one piece, she projects videos over drawings or paintings, photography, and three-dimensional sculptures to offer a more profound and dynamic perspective.
