This maquette is for a three piece sculpture consisting of three 8 foot circles called “The Circle Conversation” which blends science, art & technology intended for City & State Art Commissions, Health Institutions, University Campuses, Developers and the Private Sector. Site-specific art can bring this impact directly into communities, at a time when being curious and having conversations together matters.
“The Circle Conversation” has a community engagement component and honors everyone who has navigated the waters of suicide, depression and other brain chemistry challenges themselves or with ones they love.
My need to understand emotional intelligence & mental wellness is personal and familial; schizophrenia, depression, bi-polar disorder and suicide have been part of my life. As complicated as these diagnoses and events are, they also can be a transformation. I hold a core belief that artists are crucial in cultivating a more connected and empathetic world.
The Design:
A 3 part foundry bronze sculpture resting upon a stone base conveying cyclic movement [energy].
Material: Foundry bronze metal enforces the idea of alchemy [the medieval forerunner of chemistry, based on the supposed transformation of matter] because it is a combination of tin alloy and copper.
Circle: represents energy - energy can not be created or destroyed, only transformed.
Symbology: The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement, God ('God is a circle whose centre is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere' (Hermes Trismegistus)).
Three: represents Body Mind Spirit
