Desde la Vientre hasta la Tumba Eternal (Phara de Faraones Miramar FL y La Gonave Ayiti) / Womb to Tomb Eternal Window (Phara of Pharaohs from Miramar FL & La Gonave Haiti) is a gold fertility effigy stiffly protecting the figures beyond.
Installed at University of Maryland's African Fertility Collection exhibition, the Mother Mold monument bears the weight of a white column at its backbone, and its pregnant belly in scintillating gold. Reflecting the sun's warmth from its belly, the womb to tomb maxim refers to the lifecycle traditions celebrated within diasporic full spectrum culture where it is believed the ancestors return to the plan of the living through the protection of the birth canal.
The work binds intimate ephemera and environmental waste with a domestic textile, cast in construction materials including: gold pigment, metallic paint, acrylic paint, interior latex paint, nail salon glitter, Haitian textile, building stud, aluminum lathe, industrial floor resin, wall insulation foam
