On the back of the canvas is written “Private Collection of Joy Naffouj”. Prior to 1966, Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985), internationally collected artist, signed some form of “VOCI”. (See 1965 Zürich Ad and Wikipedia "VOCI" Signatures - Links Below).
Beginning 1966, Joy Naffouj, a Canadian art dealer, with husband Dr. Jawdat Naffouj (Dali’s “Göttliche Komödie”), made an exclusive contract for all of the artist’s works, but asked him to change his signature to “Diego”, the day-to-day name he was already known by. He signed “Diego” until his death in 1985. An early canvas in the Naffouj contract “Light” lit up the Joy Naffouj like-meter and she nabbed it for herself, until she let it go to the Cooprider Family Collection about 10 years later.
Many masterly works collected by Diego Voci Historian, Coop Cooprider since 1974, remain in the Cooprider Family Collection. Three books have been published by Stephen Max, Producer of the Diego Voci Project: "The Beauty of Diego", "Chronicles of Diego" and "Artist of a Thousand Faces". This Diego “Light” from Joy Naffouj’s Private Collection will be auctioned on October 27, 2020 at John Moran Auctioneers.

"Impressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, and Fauvism all experienced the hand of Diego Voci who was fascinated by the beauty and mystery of the face and figure, whether the female body nude or in ballet, or the etched lines of life's hardships in an old man's face, or the grace and power of the horse. Diego's versatility was his strength. Diego not only saw and realized human frailty, the desire and longing of the human to be something more, seeking but not to find; but also he understood man's animal instinct to overpower, offset by the object's instinct to resist." - Wikipedia: Antonio_Diego_Voci
