Hailing from Pennsylvania, Barnett received formal training from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He blends traditional Pennsylvania fold art with contemporary design. Barnett has been many things throughout his career, including artist, advisor, writer, jewelry designer, furniture maker, and gallery director.

Most of Barnett's recent shows focus on photography of the Santa Fe area.
