Through its mission of engaging the public in creative experiences through contemporary craft, our organization encourages people to better understand themselves and the world through seeing, making, and learning about art, as well as empowering people to create meaningful connections and build communities using the transformative power of art.
The Permanent Collection consists of works made by artists that have been affiliated with Contemporary Craft (CC) exhibitions, education, and/or the store. The Collection additionally includes works donated by key figures in Contemporary Craft history. The "Capsule Collection" is a subcategory of the Collection which is made up of works purchased through our original retail outlet, The Store for Art in Craft, and displayed in CC's inaugural exhibition Art in Modern Handcrafts (1979, The Carnegie Institute). Works in the Permanent Collection vary from traditional to experimental, but all focus on traditional craft materials: ceramic, fiber, glass, metal, paper/book arts, and wood.
