Clare spent her childhood whisked away in the fantastical worlds created by comics, games, and animation. Drawing inspiration from her favorite artists, she began developing her own characters and worlds from a very early age. She brought this love of character design and storytelling to UALR, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration and gained the skills to bring the imaginations of herself and others to life through digital media. She is now working as a freelance concept artist and illustrator based in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Statement
Narrative storytelling has been a key part of human society for time immemorial. The stories we create and share with each other serve as the glue of our communities, and as an artist, I work to continue and expand this tradition.
In the digital age, communication is easier than ever, and the way we experience art has completely changed because of this. Art is more accessible than ever, which is why I focus on artforms like digital illustration and printmaking that can be easily distributed to a broad, diverse audience.
My digital artstyle incorporates loose linework and hard areas of color that create a balance of expressiveness and realistic proportion and movement. For me, the process of making art has just as much value as the creation itself, and the presence of the artist’s hand in a work allows the audience to experience the process through the finished work.
When making art, I often don’t start with a clear message in mind, but rather allow it to develop naturally as part of the creative process, freely expressing emotion before rationalizing it. As such, most of my storytelling is a magnification of my own emotions and experiences.
I hope that my art can properly convey my emotions to my audience, and will resonate with them in a way that provokes both an aesthetic and emotional response.
