"Song of Trees" is a series of artist designed granite elements installed throughout the entry plaza of the North Berkeley Senior Center. The artwork includes two sandblasted stone panels embedded in the walls of the plaza entry, welcoming visitors to the senior center. In the plaza, a series of circular stone pavers depicting local tree species and a circular carved stone bench inspired by the Redwood tree create a space for people to come together. Trees represent a life force through the creation of oxygen for all living beings. A prominent tree may become a place where community gathers. Or, it may serve as a communal spiritual marker. "Song of Trees" represents the essence of the North Berkeley Senior Center – a community space that is like the deep-rooted trees that endure for thousands of years to nourish and inspire us.
