In ‘Enigma’, Albie Herbert has left the work’s narrative purposely ambiguous, enabling several possible different interpretations. The main emphasis of Herbert’s sculptural work has been to highlight environmental or social issues, though, with the case of ‘Enigma’, this piece was created for the joy of making. The images within the work are placed into unusual contexts or juxtaposed in unlikely combinations so that an unusual and novel narrative is formed, that is open to interpretation.
