About
Arise by Kentucky-based artist Andrew Light was selected by the Hixson community through the Art in Neighborhoods program. In 2010, the sculpture was purchased for the City's collection with private funds.
The sculpture was fabricated in 2002-2003 while Light was an undergraduate at the University of Kentucky as part of a community student program to understand monumental sculpture. It was titled Arise because all four points reach upward. After being exhibited at the University of Kentucky, the sculpture traveled to Chattanooga where it was on view at Chattanooga State’s Outdoor Museum of Art before it was sited at its current prominent location at Access Road and Hixson Pike.
