About
An Scéalaí (The Storyteller) is a monolithic form that represents the standing stones that are found throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom. It is deconstructed into three pieces to give it a more industrial appearance. The midnight-hued patinas give it an otherworldly feel, and the cast iron disc suspended at the bottom features an ancient Celtic triple spiral motif.
Artist Statement
"As an artist, and in my life as a whole, I am strongly influenced by art, architecture, and themes from ancient times, particularly the megalithic man-made stone structures of the Celtic world. These forms, ideas, and images inspire me as I create sculpture in a manner that can be characterized as contemporary or even industrial, linking the past to the present." -Mark A. Connelley
