Sculptor exploring curiosity, compassion, and overlooked beauty through figurative and animal sculpture in bronze, cast stone, and mixed media.
MessageCindy Stevens is a sculptor based in Northern Virginia and a resident artist at the Workhouse Arts Center. Her work explores curiosity, connection, and compassion through figurative and animal sculpture, inviting viewers to look more closely at the overlooked moments and creatures that surround us.
Working in bronze, cold-cast bronze, architectural cast stone, and handmade clay, she develops each sculpture through careful observation until its presence begins to emerge. Her work has been exhibited nationally and recognized by organizations including the American Artists Professional League, AE Backus Museum, and other juried exhibitions.
Before becoming a full-time sculptor, Cindy co-founded Grant Dawson Collections, where she developed extensive experience in craftsmanship, presentation, and working with collectors and designers. She is also the creator of InstaBones™, a sculpting armature system developed from her own studio practice
Statement
My work begins with a simple question: what happens when we truly see?
I am drawn to what gets overlooked—the creatures and moments that exist at the edges of our attention. Not because they are ordinary, but because we have decided they are. Some we have decided to fear. Some we have learned not to notice at all.
I work in bronze, architectural cast stone, and handmade clay, building forms through close observation until something of a subject's presence begins to appear. I begin with an experience, a thought, and evolve from there.
My hope is that someone stands in front of one of my pieces and feels something shift. A simple, subtle shift. The kind that follows you home and changes the way you move through the world.
