Chicago artist who uses Encaustic Medium (Beeswax, Damar Resin & Pigment) to create work with a tactile quality that engages those who encounter it.
MessageDrawing inspiration from the intricate layers of geological rock formations, I crafted this piece using encaustic paint – a blend of beeswax, Damar resin, and pigment. I used my signature method of applying minute droplets of encaustic, one by one, to the surface of the painting, along with texturized scratched areas to create a tactile quality that when viewed in person, engages those who encounter it. This piece serves as a visual representation of how life is rarely all black or white; rather, it is more frequently a folding and unfolding mosaic of blacks, whites, and greys stacked together to form the stratum we refer to as life.
