Created in collaboration with Kevin Zucker in 2019.
In each iteration of 'Perfect Heir,' the visual, conceptual, and temperamental traits of an initial image pair - here a decorative cinderblock and an anthurium (flamingo lily) - are refined through breeding in other images, as well as through occasional intermarriage with cousin images. The process, which is heraldry-based, generates the perfect heir of any given image / flower union. Successive generations are represented by unique escutcheons, and as floral art objects derived from those escutcheons.
'Perfect Heir II,' 2019, which the plant-based object shown here is from, was included in 'Figuring the Floral' at Wave Hill, curated by Eileen Jeng Lynch and Emily Alesandrini with Jennifer McGregor.
