The title Floating Away refers to the red garment in the middle of the painting, both literally and metaphorically. The garment is literally being buoyed on the air. But the word “floating” can also be defined as “not settled in a definite place.” I use this red discarded garment in many of my paintings as my symbol for the part of yourself you leave behind when you move somewhere new. So the title refers to that too.
