Christine O’Brien is an award-winning realism painter. Through layers of refined brushwork, she creates striking imagery in dynamic compositions.
MessageThe first time Christine fell in love with drawing, was during family trips. Her mother provided sketchbook and pencils, so she rendered the new surroundings. Christine continued to paint and draw, including portraits of friends and received a scholarship to a liberal arts college. After completing the classical arts program, which included advanced drawing and painting the figure from life, she was awarded an independent study during her senior year in advanced techniques with the head of the art department. For the final project, she made a five-foot square mixed media portrait that was published in the curriculum catalog and hung at the reception area in the Fine Arts building. After graduating, Christine worked in Chicago as an illustrator and graphic designer. In a twist of fate, her career took a curve, and for many years she enjoyed a successful path in corporate marketing and sales management. Upon moving from the midwest to living with the majestic landscape of California, Christine returned full-time to her passion for creating realistic pictorials. Current creations are carefully composed scenes built-up through layers of detailing and subtle gradations of colors to create dynamic realities. The imagery she depicts is inspired by the visual diversity that surrounds her and celebrates a universal truth, her truth, that the constant in life is change. Christine's work is collected throughout the US and abroad.
Statement
"The subjects I paint are referenced from my experiences, surroundings, and close observation. From picturesque landscapes, contemplative portraits, and staged still-life, I work in layers of oil paint using refined, detail brushwork that transcend the imagery and tells more about the forms portrayed than you might otherwise see. This realistic work emerges as striking compositions, conveying a mood in time.”
