Cheryl Potter
Blind Bay, BC
My artistic goal is to capture the endless textures, shapes, colours & patterns in nature to share this natural beauty visually with the viewer.
MessageArt has always been part of Cheryl’s life, painting & drawing as a child was her passion. Her formal art education began at McEwan University where she graduated from the Graphic Design program in 1993. Working as an advertising artist helped develop her skills in the production of printable art. In 1993 she started Grizzly Graphics & Illustration in Jasper and enjoyed 15 years of creating artwork for the businesses and residents of this mountain community.
About 15 years ago she returned to creating her own style of visual art, which is to express the natural beauty of our western canadian landscape. The textures, shapes, colours & patterns in nature inspire her to put brush to canvas and bring her expression of nature’s beauty to the viewer.
Cheryl currently resides with her husband & labradoodle on Shuswap Lake in the small community of Blind Bay, BC.

Statement
As a visual artist, I find inspiration in the textures, shapes, colours & patterns that nature provides. My brush is the tool I choose to interpret the natural world we live in. My work attempts to provide the viewer with an experience of being there, in that place of natural beauty. The images I create move along a spectrum from representational to abstract, depending on what I want to express to the viewer. Often working in a series, this allows me to use multiple images to explore a single concept.
The natural world is distinctly different in each of the four seasons of our Canadian Landscape, providing an endless variety of images to explore & express on canvas. By sharing these images, I hope that the viewer can experience a greater connection to the natural world in which we live.
"I believe my paintings represent nature's poetry written with a brush".
