The canvas was colored using natural fabric dyes. The design was drawn on scrap book paper and then hand cut using scissors and an exacto knife. The design was glued to the canvas. Powered charcoal and copper were sprinkled then washed with water so that it would flow around the design. Rub 'n buff was used to create a metallic look. Encaustic medium was then melted onto the surface of the art. to protect the materials and to enhance the "aged" look.
Artwork 2 Artist Statement
Although my art can be described as eclectic, it shares common themes and is often inspired by nature, my travels, and experiences, and by my love of history.
In many cultures, the oak tree symbolizes, strength, endurance, power and ancient wisdom. The oak tree is a common theme in wycinanki work (a Polish traditional folk art of paper-cutting).
