This watercolor was created in memory and honor of the losses to businesses, culture, and art caused by the 2024 devastating floods in Asheville, NC. A storefront window of the outskirts of the downtown area inspired the painting.
I strived to engage the viewer to look closely at the multiple layers of objects, reflections, light, and shadow.
Through intricate layers of watercolor and subtle metallic leaf, A Window into the Past invites viewers to peer into a memory-laced interior—an imagined cabinet of curiosities. Antique furniture, delicate glass, and timeworn objects shimmer with golden highlights, suggesting stories long held in stillness and shadow. The composition is a collage of reflected light, ornate craftsmanship, and layered textures, evoking a space where time collapses into quiet nostalgia. It's both a portrait of material culture and a meditation on memory, where every surface whispers its own history.
