These Union Switch and Signal Company (USS) "Searchlight" signals were a mainstay of American railroading from the 1920's until the late 1980's. Today few remain. One place they do is on the old Boston & Maine "Conn River Line" (now New England Central). This one is located just south of Bellows Falls on Route 5, near Harlow's Organic Farm. Word is that it is to be replaced with a more modern type within the next three years.
