The juxtaposition of severe, industrial shapes against the hazy natural world; the endless push-pull between things of God and things of Man. DUNES and PACKING PLANT are both plein air pieces from the 'Forgotten Coast' area of Florida's panhandle around Apalachicola, an area that is quite reminiscent of the Chesapeake Bay. As with places like Hooper's Island, it too, is a working seafood waterfront - in this case shrimp and oysters, rather than crab. This beautiful area was devastated by Hurricane Michael last year - the packing plant, in particular, (known locally as the Popham Building) sustained what are probably mortal injuries.
