Charles is an abstract painter. His work is often brightly colored and has references to weathered steel and erosion of the earth. His process is painting a series of layers of paint and then scraping to remove certain elements. His paintings typically have over thirty layers of paint. He has sold work across the country a well as Japan.
Charles currently works in the medium of encaustics. Encaustic painting is a centuries old technique that is having resurgence as of late. Encaustic paint is made of Bees wax, pigment, and natural resin. Each layer of paint is applied in a molten state and then is fused with a blowtorch. Encaustic paintings require very little care however they should not be placed in direct sunlight and once a month they should be buffed with a lint free cloth to bring back the glossy finish.
Charles is currently represented in Memphis by Village Frame & Art and in Nashville by The Arts Company.
