Hello! I hope your summer is going well! The weather has been up and down and the smoke has been bad at times - I’ve been thinking about the people who have lost their homes, cabins, been displaced or evacuated from the fires and pray for their safety in our northern communities and across the country. It is devastating.
I am excited to let you know my solo show at Humboldt Museum and Gallery is on now from August 1st until September 9th. The show opening will be Saturday, August 16th from 1:30-4:00 pm. If you are in the area or care for a drive I would love to see you and show you my artwork. The show is entitled ‘Colour Me Prairie’, and showcases prairie scenes and northern lakes and forests: fields that go on forever, big blue skies, stormy cloudscapes, brilliant sunsets, and clear blue lakes. I so enjoy painting these scenes (and beyond) as they remind me of growing up on a farm, and the freedom to roam and explore our beautiful province.
This weekend I am heading to Cochin Resort for their Cochin Days on August 9th! It is a fun event with a craft and artisan market, volleyball tournament, kids’ bike parade, live music, sandcastle building competition, a decorated boat parade down the river, and evening fireworks! There is a large crowd of enthusiastic attendees and we also enjoy the company of good friends who have a cabin there. If you are looking for something to do this weekend come out to Cochin! (They also have a great ice cream shop!!)
In June I was thrilled to be featured in the Visual Art Journal, a publication showcasing artists and their work from around the world. I participated in an online interview discussing my artwork and what inspires me to paint the prairies. You can read the interview here: https://visualartjournal.com/2025/06/30/issue-30-june-2025/
The world seems a bit out of control right now and it may seem unnecessary or gratuitous to talk about art. But art can bring joy, comfort, a sense of belonging, hold memories dear, and cause us to stop and think about our lives and about what is important to us. I still find joy in creating and know that it is something I have to do to keep myself happy and grounded. I hope you have something that also does that for you. Thanks for reading!
