Artist: P.J. Randolph
P.J. works in Cedars’ large garden and helps staff the Farmer’s Market stand where garden produce is sold in the summer. P.J. also works with the animal program, feeding and caring for alpacas, goats and rabbits. P.J. is an energetic and hardworking team player. He has many friends, and loves basketball, music, dancing, and parties.
P.J. creates text-based artwork from books, daily events, and the names of friends and family. He refers to characters in his favorite books as his friends, in particular Harry Potter and the protagonists found in The Chronicles of Narnia. His memory of the first time he heard the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was on a camping trip, where his dad read the stories to him and his sisters in their tent.
As an artist, P.J. is very focused and prolific, both in the art studio and with any possible moment of free time. P.J. carries pens and several spiral notebooks with him at all times, so that he’s always ready to add a few more lines to his work. Leaning so close to the page that his glasses almost graze the surface, P.J. appears to be in a meditative state of mind, working fluidly and methodically with his chosen medium and materials. He is an excellent speller, and with calligraphic, precise penmanship, transcribes text in colorful stacked or sloping patterns as he reads, re-reads and lives these stories.
