Artist: Mason Reid
A recent arrival to Cedars, Mason has made a huge impact in his short time with us. He fills the building with his joy in making art, which he credits with providing him tremendous healing. His dry sense of humor, his unfailing kindness to his fellow artists, and his deeply philosophical mindset make him a well-loved member of the community. He draws tight maze-like constructions that morph into disembodied facial features. Such mash-ups of abstract and figurative modes of expression are reminiscent of drifting thoughts, like the artist is creating maps of his own consciousness. He also makes sculptures, often using a limited palette of shapes and colors. In one series, he uses wooden cubes, thoughtfully arranged and painted in black and white. Mason's exploration of the relationships between these elemental objects has a spirit of serious, yet playful, inquiry.
