Color is the foundation of my work. I am fascinated by the wonderful and strange ways colors behave in concert with each other.

Statement
I make narrative abstract paintings, mixed media pieces, and sculptural works that are a meditation on resilience. Combining the loose abandon of gestural painting with the clean lines of geometric abstraction, my work celebrates our connection to nature, imagines a chaotic version of the inner workings of the body, and at times offers a comical take on the unseen forces that influence our lives.
Color is the foundation of my work. As a student and teacher of color theory, I am fascinated by the ways colors behave and change in concert with each other. Further, shape, movement, and an obsession with light and shadow are central to what I make as is experimentation with both traditional and alternative media. My love of color and design was sparked while growing up in South Florida during the 1970s, a time and place of bright clashing colors, balloon lettering, and black-light posters. And like many other artists (Warhol, Thiebaud), I got my start in computerless commercial art and typesetting. In recent years, serious illness and major surgeries have shifted my focus in life and art to mortality, impermanence, and resilience in the face of challenge. What I make, how I make it, and what the viewer sees is an amalgam of these lived experiences.
