Carter Hodgkin fuses art and science, exploring a new language of abstraction to make animations, paintings and large-scale mosaic installations.
Her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S., Japan, Europe and India. Awards include the Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation (2012, 2005), the Pollock Krasner Foundation (2002) and the New York Foundation for the Arts (2009, 1989). Her permanent public art project “Electromagnetic Fall” was cited by Americans for the Arts as one of the best public art projects for 2010.
Articles and reviews of her work have appeared in Artforum, Art in America, Flash Art and the L.A.Times. Her work is included in Art+Science Now, a survey of artists working at the frontiers of science and technology. Her work is included public and private collections including the U.S. Library of Congress and the Art in Embassies Program, the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum and the Basil Alkazzi Foundation.
Ms. Hodgkin received a B.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University and taught at Parsons/The New School. She lives and works in New York City.
