This work is framed and ready to hang. Bright Autumn was painted en plein air (outdoors on site). It was a crisp fall day at the peak of the season, so the colors were not an exaggeration. I created the composition by moving real elements in the landscape into my composition, then simplifying them into a slightly abstracted version of reality. I wanted the surface of the painting to offer additional interest to the viewer, so the strokes are thick and direct. My inspiration was the spontaneous, impasto, plein air paintings by the Group of Seven. To me, fall represents the beauty of life’s cycles of rest and rebirth.
