Carolyn Dawn Good
Duncan, BC
Dedicated to revealing unseen worlds to be seen through art, technology and the human experience.
MessageCarolyn Dawn Good is a BFA honors graduate from the University of Art in Philadelphia. Her influences have been Arther Dove, Kandinsky (Concerning the Spiritual in Art), Karen Gunderson, Warren Rohrer, and many other contemporary abstract expressionists from the early part of the 20th century. After graduation, she and her husband created a wearable art wear line that put art in the hands of ordinary people. (Not just for the elite) It was a six figure business selling wholesale throughout North America to high end gift stores and boutiques.
Being raised in a Mennonite community in Southern Ontario, (where non functional art was not really encouraged) she left to establish new roots on the west coast of British Columbia and raised three sons there, while homeschooling and continuing to build up her artistic practice through community art.
Seeing the restorative healing power of art, she set up a professional practice of “Art Heals” using her training in restorative justice, listening circle facilitation, family constellations and other healing touch/energy work.
Carolyn Dawn has been a student of the Brahma Kumaris (a non denominational raj yoga). She has exhibited at Meditation Museum in Washington DC, Surrey Art Gallery, (Mother’s Hair -Phots of a French braided lawn) and group shows throughout her travels and decades long career.
Her murals can be found in Mission BC and Kitchener Ontario. One is at Philadelphia Terminal Market, Her graphic design is on the Exit Matters game that helps people talk about death and do advanced care planning. She was a contributing founder to the investigative work done at The Bright Spot in Waterloo, Ontario which helped business develop through a lens of creative intuition and arts principles.
In 2019-20 she was the artist in residence at Alternative Journal, Canada’s leading environmental magazine. In 2017 was a graduate of Leadership Waterloo and in 2014 obtained a business degree from Conestoga College Small Business Venture Program.
Statement
Artist Statement:
In current times when we are increasingly forced to align with labels, hashtags and trends, I waver and sway under the inert tendency to tune to a wild, raw and untamed muse.
We are living in square boxes looking at square electronic windows into global images of addictive sound and a reality formed by algorithms pushing separation and classifications that divide instead of unite. I dig in my heels and run to the trees with my device to capture the last of the wild and the free.
Each line on the blank page has a infinite trajectories of possible expansion. I stand back and allow the next line and color to reveal, to let another clearer voice through. I often fall short. Yet the work seems important, if only for my own voice to be expressed so I can see it.
It is my hope that it represents a unvoiced, unseen, unheard familiar part of you as well. I hope you feel natures love and insistent enchantment coming into your space when the art is hung. That each day the work speaks of a new slant, a deeper chord, a subtler colour that can fill your heart with hope and ignite a soul recognition of the wonder of the ordinary existence.
Allowing the movement and flow of
unseen worlds to be seen
is a great honor and joy.
Thank you for being a witness
and supporting me in this work.
