Part of The Fifth Direction series, Where the Wind Returns is an exploration of elemental energy, memory, and transformation. Created with acrylic and mixed media, the painting emerged through layers of intuitive mark-making, allowing color, texture, and movement to guide the process rather than a predetermined image.
The work suggests a landscape without fully defining one. Areas of luminous warmth collide with passages of cool turquoise and deep shadow, creating a sense of forces meeting, shifting, and renewing. The sweeping lines and layered surfaces evoke wind, water, fire, and earth—elements that shape both the natural world and our inner landscapes.
Rather than depicting a specific place, Where the Wind Returns reflects a recurring theme throughout my work: the enduring relationship between land, memory, and spirit. The title speaks to cycles of return, reminding us that change is rarely an ending. Like wind crossing familiar ground, some forces revisit us again and again, carrying traces of what came before while shaping what is yet to come.
