MessageCAROL SIMON
Stay Happy Be Positive is the mantra that Houston abstract artist Carol Simon lives by, and incorporates into her art practice. Her colorful art style emanates joy and expresses her vibrant spirit. A native Houstonian, Carol is married with two grown daughters, and worked in the advertising industry early in her career. Later in life, Carol got certified as a life coach and took up painting as a hobby. Through her life coaching journey, Carol found her passion for expressive painting, which provided her both a creative outlet and emotional well-being. In addition, life coaching helped her recognize the value of positivity and joy in her creative work, not just for her but her collectors as well. It's the kind of work that transforms whatever space it inhabits, bringing color and joy to those fortunate enough to experience it.
Carol's process is abstract expressionism, which requires significant creativity using positive energy. She lets her mood and intuition guide the vivid colors and styles in her art. Carol's work is luminous and vibrant engulfing the viewers in its blazing colors and visual immediacy, creating a cohesive body of work. It's on the conceptual level though, where the hidden power may be found and ensures that the art is never static, turns on itself and then expands outward. What you see depends on where you are in life and where you stand in the room.
Always looking for ways to spread and give gratitude, in 2015 Carol created a public, large scale outdoor art installation with the help of volunteers. The "First Ward is Blooming" art installation encompassed 10,000 upcycled water bottles that were painted bright colors and cut into flower shapes, then attached to a chain link fence to beautify the First Ward neighborhood and educate the public about plastic pollution.
Carol's artwork has been shown in various exhibitions throughout the country and on permanent view at The Holocaust Museum of Houston and enjoyed by both private and commercial collectors all over the world. She also has been featured in several print and online publications and broadcast segments.

Statement
I am fascinated by the emotional power of color and the way it can evoke different moods and feelings. My art is a celebration of life's kaleidoscope, a vibrant explosion of bold and happy colors that traverse the canvas with unbridled enthusiasm. I view color as the heartbeat of my creative expression, a language that speaks directly to the soul, evoking positivity and happiness in every mark and paint stroke.
Life itself is my ultimate muse, and I find inspiration in the most ordinary of moments. The crimson blush of a tomato, the magenta in my backyard flower garden, the various shades of blues and greens in the Mediterranean sea, the golden sunlight through the leaves-these are the hues that fuel my creative fire. Through the unabashed use of bold happy colors, I strive to uplift spirits and rekindle the sense of childlike wonder within each of us.
Alcohol inks are my chosen medium using different types of substrates including plexiglas, clayboard and yupo paper in my work providing a catalyst for experimentation and creative expression. The vivid and luminous colors in the inks I choose evoke a sense of happy emotion and energy and react slightly different on each substrate. With alcohol inks, I wield a certain level of control in guiding the colors, yet I also embrace the unpredictable of the medium. These inks flow, merge, bend and intertwine with spontaneity and feelings that mirrors the way we navigate life, finding joy and beauty from the interplay of planning and serendipity. It is a celebration of beauty and an invitation for the viewers to find their own stories within the layers and colors of my art.
