Carol Chiasson Rivas was born in New Orleans and has lived in Texas, Iowa, and Florida. She travelled the U.S. and Europe with her husband, Dan, before settling into the beautiful area of north Central Arkansas. In 2019, Carol walked into Dana Johnson’s class, having never had any previous art training. Starting with charcoal and progressing to pastels, her work now includes acrylics, watercolors, oils, and alcohol inks. She is a member of the Palette Art League, the Ozark Regional Art Council, the Arkansas Pastel Society, the Red Rock Pastel Society, and the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS). In 2020, she began selling her works at art fairs and on-line and she began doing commissions. She has had her paintings in the Arkansas Pastel Society Exhibition at the Thea Foundation in North Little Rock, two PAL Gallery Exhibitions in Yellville, and several on-line exhibitions. She has had paintings shown in the Member’s Exhibition of the New Orleans Drawing Group at the Arabi Visual Arts Gallery, at the “Reflections in Pastel” juried exhibition on display at the Laman Library in North Little Rock, at The Sheid Gallery in the Arkansas State University Mountain Home, and at Baxter Library in Mountain Home. She displays her works at the Palette Art League Art Gallery in Yellville, Arkansas, at the Delta Arts Festival in Newport, Arkansas, and in The Art Odyssey Artists’ Studio Tour.
