Statement
Nature has always presented itself to me as something mysterious, a far more nuanced subject than what one might initially register. Those wild places that resonate deeply within us reflect our primeval relationship with the environment—and our yearning for what we’ve lost.
My work feeds our hunger for nature’s magic and mystery. I combine emotive landscape photography in still and animated formats with fanciful narratives, encouraging creative interpretations by stimulating our most powerful sense: the imagination. In my art, a tree becomes a monster, a fissure in a rock is the broken heart of a mountain, an old doorway steps us through time, and more.
My process begins with the photograph, looking for an unexpected compositional element. I then take inspiration from the scene’s tone to compose a narrative which is placed on an art label next to the picture in my still photos. For videos, I embed the narrative directly, apply zoom-and-pan techniques for animation, and add background music for ambiance.
