MessageBrian Madden is an artist and experiential designer driven by curiosity, symbolism, and stories. Currently focusing primarily on contemporary pietra dura (hard stone) assemblages, he has designed and managed the creation of art installations, branded experiences, environments, and objects for a diverse range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to emerging entrepreneurs, and from gallerists to art collectors.
Brian lives and works in San Francisco, California, where he splits his time running a personal creative studio and working as a Lead Experience Designer for Target Corporation’s New Ventures & Accelerators team. At Target he is helping to explore and inform the future of Target and the role it can play in supporting the human experience, while performing ongoing experiments at the Target Open House retail learning lab. Before moving to California, Brian lived in Portland, Oregon and worked for Nike Inc, curating art and designing spaces, installations, and furniture for Nike’s corporate locations around the world. Prior to Nike, Brian worked for IDL Worldwide in Portland, designing and managing the production and installation of branded experiences, activations, and marketing initiatives around the world for brands like Nike, Jordan, The North Face, Oakley, Starbucks, Google, and Coca-Cola.
Brian began his career in product and furniture design, first as an apprentice in the personal studio of Josh Owen, designer & chair of the RIT Industrial Design program. He continued as freelance industrial design support for designer & educator Jonah Takagi in Washington, DC before being invited to spend two weeks designing concepts in the product design studio of Fabrica, United Colors of Benetton’s Communications Research Facility, in Treviso, Italy.
Brian graduated from the Industrial Design program at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), in Rochester, New York. While enrolled at RIT, Brian also studied abroad in Milan, Italy, practicing fashion & product design at Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA).
Brian is a member of Run Trill, an international team of designers with a love for making art, contributing to community causes, and running epic relays.
