Bren Marquez is an abstract artist and a professional organizer with a history in staging homes and working with interior designers. Her work has grown out of a steady focus on restraint, balance, and reduction, shaped over time through exhibitions and a growing collector base.
She’s drawn to simplicity. Painting has become a quiet, grounding process for her, and something she’s come to rely on.
Working primarily in layered neutrals, and a minimal palette, She builds and removes, refines and softens, allowing each piece to resolve slowly. Her process is intuitive but disciplined—guided by the point at which the surface feels a little unsettled rather than finished.
Based in Southern California, her work is influenced by a preference for quiet, open spaces and a more considered pace. That sense of calm carries through the paintings themselves.
She’s drawn to the idea that what we live with affects how we feel. These pieces are meant to hold space rather than take it—offering a visual pause, something steady and grounding within an interior. The process itself is meditative, and that intention remains in the final work.
Statement
Neutral–lovers, designers, and solace–seekers…these paintings were made especially for you. I am a minimalist by nature and by trade. Though I often incorporate earthy colors into my work, I find myself more drawn to the dramatic black and white combo.
Happiness is found in bright colors…but peace is found in the quiet. The calm. The simple. These are the feelings that I most enjoy experiencing during my creative process and when experiencing my work at home.
The sophisticated blending of subtlety of color and mark making is a delight and doesn’t overwhelm but envelopes the viewer. A moment of stillness. Having this kind of positive impact on my collector’s daily experience and mental health is important to me.
