Winner of the Portrait prize of the Royal Ulster Academy's 137th Annual Exhibition.
Eoghan, an Irish friend of mine who had relocated his life to Florence, made a fantastic model. His cheekbones practically carved themselves into the paint and his enigmatic and pleasant demeanor made him a pleasure as company. Inspired by the captivating pose of his teacher Carolus Duran by his then-student John Singer Sargent, I dressed Eoghan in a deep midnight, velvet smoking Jacket.
My portrait of Eoghan would later go on to win the Award for Best Portrait at the Royal Ulster Academy show the year after I finished the piece.
