Of all the models I painted during my time in Florence, Federica's company and face were companions I kept throughout. An effervescent personality, a keen enjoyment of anything created in the studio and a rolling laugh that would always keep my spirits up. In the end, the last painting I made of Federica never captured this side to her. A consummate professional, she would always relax beautifully into pose and I'd watch her mind wander. It was during these prolonged, pensive moments that I painted her, trying to catch what I felt brimming beneath the surface.
